My career has not always been in libraries, but my journey made me who I am today.
I started work at age 16 in a Bingo Hall in Goldsboro, North Carolina before moving to Alabama. My customer service skills kicked in while working at KFC and Burger King during high school. After graduation, I returned to North Carolina and Bingo. During my college years in Hawaii, I worked as a security guard before moving to UPS and then the Veterans Administration. After graduation, I relocated to Las Vegas working as a table games dealer, pit boss and floor supervisor in multiple casinos over eight years. I finally landed in Kentucky and settled into my reference position at BCPL after three years in circulation. The sudden change in my career trajectory convinced all of my neighbors that I was in witness protection.
I have been a Public Service Associate at BCPL for 20 years. I feel a sense of satisfaction knowing that I work for a tax-paid entity that returns the value. We provide computer access, videos, books, magazines, databases, employment help, resume help, passports, notary service and way too much to even continue to brag about it.
I have found my home at BCPL and take great pride in the work I do for our community.
