I don’t remember a time when I did not love to read or want to travel the world. Among my earliest memories are trips with my mother to the Bookmobile at the Cherokee Shopping Center in Kenton County where I grew up. Books were a way for me to travel to other places and sparked a desire to see the world while instilling that education was a way to achieve that goal. After graduating from Morehead State University (Geography), I moved to Lexington, KY where I lived for 24 years and where I received my Masters in Library and Information Science from the University of Kentucky. I spent 19 years as a Law Librarian at two large law firms and then at the University of Kentucky College of Law Library in several different roles including Foreign and International Law Librarian and Head of Public Services.
I returned to Northern Kentucky in 2010 and became Branch Manager of the Scheben Branch. The daily interactions with customers and working with the wonderful staff at Scheben are what make my job worthwhile. I’m also very proud of the Passport Acceptance Program which Scheben started by becoming certified Passport Agents through the U.S. State Department. The Library filled a community need by providing customers with a tool they can use to connect with the world.
When my husband Kelly and I are not traveling, I love to practice yoga, walk, and of course read. Whether it’s the works of Ragnar Jónasson set in Iceland, Martin Walker’s French Policeman Bruno Courrèges or Hans Christian Anderson’s Denmark, literature, and by extension libraries, introduce us to other cultures and provide a greater understanding of our world. As libraries continue to evolve and adapt to meet the changing needs of the public at their core, they remain a place of learning and exploration, as well as a refuge for the curious. And, I’m exceedingly proud to say I’m a part of that!
