Meet the Managers: Teresa Sayers, Collection Development

My library career started at the Lexington Public Library in 1989 as a Librarian Assistant. During my 11 years there, I worked full-time while taking classes at UK in the evenings to earn my degree. After moving to Boone County in 2000, I started as a Reference Librarian at the Florence Branch. In 2005, I became the Branch Manager at the Lents Branch until it closed in 2015. I have spent the last 8 years as the Collection Development Manager for the library system. Yes, that is 23 years at BCPL!

What I appreciate most about BCPL are the opportunities to grow my career by trying new things. I have worked the public service desk, created and led programs, including a book group that I started 15 years ago, and have supervised many people over the years. I have worked with some wonderful people at BCPL. There’s an amazing camaraderie that comes from working as a team to handle difficult situations and tasks.

Although I’m a proud Wisconsin girl, I have grown to love Kentucky and Boone County. Most of my husband’s family lives in or near Boone County and my parents moved to the area a few years ago. After 23 years, I am quite happy to call Boone County my home.

Outside of work, I crochet and work jigsaw puzzles, while listening to a wide array of podcasts and/or books. My husband and I own a Jaguar convertible, and we enjoy taking drives and participating in Jaguar Club activities. We have attended quite a few car shows through the years. We also enjoy spending time with our extended family, and although everyone is busy, we have a great time whenever we get together!
