From swoon-worthy classics to feel-good favorites, BCPL staff are spreading the love with their top romance movie recommendations.

D. and Marissa’s Pick:
D: If you live, eat, and breathe enemies-to-lovers, this one is for you.
Marissa: This has been my favorite movie since I was 13! A 90s retelling of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, this teenage romcom movie involves fake dating, unexpected feelings, and plenty of banter.

Gary’s Pick:
(Christopher Reeve) sees a portrait of a beautiful woman, from 1912 (Jane Seymore) while staying at a hotel. He discovers that it is the same woman who approaches him ten years earlier and hands him a watch and whispers Come back to me.

Emily K. S.’s Pick:
Moulin Rouge (2002)
A young poet (Iwan McGregor) and the queen courtesan of Moulin Rouge (Nicole Kidman) must hide their love from the evil-mustachioed Duke. The movie ranges from wildy chaotic to romantically serene AND has an amazing soundtrack.

Emily S.’s Pick:
The line, “The man is the head, but the woman is the neck. And she can turn the head any way she wants,” will simply change your life.

Sheila’s Pick:
I chose this movie because:
1. It’s humorous
2. Love wins in the end
3. All female cast – each one a star in their own right
4. I can’t help repeating “l’amor, l’amor, l’amor.”

Anna and Jill’s Pick:
Anna: When Harry Met Sally is a timeless love story that makes you laugh, cry, frustrated, and joyful.
Jill: A Rob Reiner and Nora Ephron classic. This movie has everything–comedy, drama, romance, Carrie Fisher and her rolodex of potential partners! Nothing matches the iconic duo of Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal as the titular pair who you see grow from strangers to enemies to friends, and then finally, with one of the best monologues ever written, to lovers. “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible!”

Ashley’s Pick:
I recommend Your Name. It’s a 2016 Japanese film about a young man and woman with very different lives who swap bodies that will have you going through every emotion on the spectrum, ending with you sobbing on the floor (but in a good way).

Stella’s Pick:
This is one of my favorite movies ever. It’s got whimsy, body positivity, modern fairy tale vibes and Reese Witherspoon as one of the producers!

PENELOPE!!! love that movie so much!!
