Hello! I am Sienna Whallin, and I have been a Page* at the Scheben Branch since September of 2023. My position largely consists of putting away and checking in books, along with collecting any holds patrons place. My favorite thing about working at Scheben is the relaxed environment and how everyone is so friendly. I enjoy contributing to the library and patrons by being able to assist in giving everyone the opportunity to access the library’s contents.

I was born here in Kentucky, but I grew up in a very small, rural town in Tennessee for 11 years before moving back to Kentucky when I was 12. It was a huge adjustment moving from a little country town where everyone seemed to know each other to the much more populated Union/Florence area of Kentucky. Not only this, but moving here and being only thirty minutes away from Cincinnati, a bustling and well-known city, was quite the shock. To put it into perspective, back when I lived in Tennessee, I grew up with only around 70 kids in my grade, so it was surprising when I moved to Kentucky and learned that I was going to have nearly 500 people in my grade.

Currently, I am a high school graduate of Larry A. Ryle High School as of 2024, and I am now a student of NKU. I am majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Applied Artificial Intelligence. So far, I have learned how to code in the programming languages, Python and Java, along with the markup language, HTML. I have just finished my first year of college and will be moving onto my second in the fall. Despite this, I was already considered a sophomore at NKU during this last spring semester due to taking college classes through both Gateway Community and Technical College and Thomas More through my high school’s Dual Enrollment program.

I have a lot of nerdy interests. I love playing video games in my free time, and I’m a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda, specifically Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I also love to play games such as Stardew Valley, Genshin Impact, and Cyberpunk 2077. I enjoy creative writing and reading, and I have a personal collection of about 200 books, with my favorite genres being fantasy and romance. I love the 80’s, especially the music from that decade. My first concert was Journey, where I got to see Don’t Stop Believin’ performed live. I have also seen Toto, the Beach Boys, Olivia Rodrigo, and PinkPantheress in concert. Along with this, I am into musical artists that are considered to be more indie or alternative, like Empire of the Sun, and I am also into genres like surf rock, like the band known as Sun Room.

Another huge interest of mine is traveling. I’ve been out of the country four times and last year, I got the opportunity to go to Europe for the first time. My family and I went to Italy and visited the Amalfi Coast and Rome. Within the Amalfi Coast area, we visited cities such as Sorrento, Maiori, Minori, the actual town known as Amalfi, and the island of Capri. In Capri, I went on a boat tour, adventured into the Blue Grotto (a sea cave famously known for its water glowing blue through the darkness), and went to the highest point of the island on a single-seat ski lift. In Rome, I got to walk through the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, and the Vatican, where I saw Michaengelo’s breathtaking artwork in the Sistine Chapel. It was an amazing experience, and I believe that everyone should go out of the country at least once in their lifetime if they have the chance to. Italy is a beautiful country with a lot of history, and I highly recommend traveling there.
Working at BCPL has been a great experience for me, and I enjoy being a part of such a great community of people.
