June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. Many of us know a family member, friend or neighbor who has been diagnosed with a form of dementia known as Alzheimer’s Disease.
Alzheimer’s is a progressive neurological disorder that affects memory, thinking and behavior. It has no cure. In the early stages, there is mild memory loss followed by the inability to carry on a conversation in the late stages.

There is an endeavor today to find ways to treat the disease and prevent it from developing. A great resource for understanding the disease, educating yourself on resources available for help and what to expect as a caregiver is the Alzheimer’s Association. Noted on their website, the Alzheimer’s Association leads the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.
Kindness and patience go a long way when someone you love can’t remember a family member or special event because Alzheimer’s has affected their ability to recall. Find strength in the love that person held for you and allow that love to remain in your heart carrying the memory on.
