I am not native to Boone County or Kentucky. I grew up in rural Chipley, Florida, in the state’s lower Alabama region, where most of my family still lives. I earned my undergraduate degree from North Georgia College and State University, where I also met my husband. This October, we will celebrate 22 years of marriage.
I have always loved reading. After stepping away from school and work for nearly 20 years to raise my two sons, I decided to re-enter the workforce and applied at BCPL. Once I joined the Outreach department, I fell in love with the work. There are so many patrons who cannot get to one of our branches, and I am grateful that we can bring a little bit of that joy to them. Being part of this community inspired me to return to school and pursue my dream of becoming a librarian. I am currently in my third semester of the MLIS program at Indiana University.
Both of my adult sons have autism, a cause that is very close to my heart. I believe adult services for people with disabilities need to catch up to children’s services. They will be adults far longer than they will be children, and they deserve the same opportunities and support.
My family has lived in eight different cities across six states. We never expected Boone County to become home, but we love it here. I am an avid sports fan. While I have grown to love Cincinnati teams, my heart belongs to Auburn University in Alabama – WAR EAGLE!
I also have a spoiled long-haired dachshund named Drogo who likes almost no one outside our family. When I am not spending time with my family, I enjoy trying new cuisines. I can be a bit of a food snob, but Cincinnati has me hooked on goetta!
