My journey into librarianship was an unexpected one. I started my career as a reference assistant at one of the local libraries and learned the fascinating profession known as teen librarianship. Through teen librarianship, one could use the power of pop culture to form meaningful connections with teens and provide them with opportunities to grow as people. As someone who loves playing video games and being part of fandoms, the idea of a profession where I could share that love while also helping others sounded fun!
I love working with teens. Watching them move from a world of impulse to the next stage of life, adulthood, is rewarding in a way most people overlook. Teens are our immediate future, and my life’s calling is to support them by providing an excellent collection of materials, fun events, and advocating for them in the library.
My home life is pretty cool, too. I have a kind and supportive husband who will listen to me rant about imaginary people, because of course I also listen to him rant about other imaginary people. My son is growing up to be a little nerd like us who loves reading, playing games, and out of nowhere, loves doing DIY costumes despite barely being 4 years old.
When I manage to steal away for some personal time, I enjoy working to develop video games, reading manhwa, and catching up on TV – I’m still not sold on Colin, Penelope! You can do so much better!
