This book reminded me why I love reading fantasy—because it’s fun to escape into a new world and adventure! This author holds a fast pace while making me laugh and keeping me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to read Romantasy!
Carrie, Executive Director, recommends:
The Psy/Changeling series by Nalini Singh is unforgettable series and one to binge! Set in a fascinating world with three distinct groups—Humans, Changelings, and the Psy—it’s a blend of paranormal romance, fantasy and mystery. The Psy are cold and emotionless, trained to suppress all feelings in favor of logic and control. Changelings are fiery, passionate shapeshifters who embrace their dual nature—half human, half animal. And humans are caught in the middle of a brewing power struggle between these two forces. If you love romance with a side of fantasy and a dose of mystery, this series is for you. Nalini Singh’s writing will have you hooked from page one.

I, along with many other people, fell into the Colleen Hoover trap the past couple years. However, “Layla” is one of my favorite books from last year. The story takes so many turns throughout, that whatever you think is going to happen actually doesn’t. It also has a gut wrenching love story that makes you root for the main characters. With the setting of a secluded mansion, a handsome hero, and a ghost story mixed in, it will make you believe that love lasts even after death.
Suzanne, Circulation Assistant at the Florence Branch, recommends:
This book was well-written chick lit with a bit of depth. I enjoyed the characters of Nora and Charlie. While you can pretty much figure out how things are going to go, Henry puts an original spin on the rom-com. The book is from the viewpoint of the witchy, hard-charging girlfriend who always gets dumped for the fresh-faced country/small town girl. In this one, we get to see what is behind the hard shell surrounding her.
Marissa, Public Service Associate at the Walton Branch, recommends:
It’s a duology with “Nothing Like the Movies” as the second book. I’m normally not a YA romance reader, but this duology was adorable. It’s a rom-com about rom-coms, and I absolutely loved it!
Adrianna, Youth Services Associate at the Walton Branch, recommends:
This romantasy reads like a fluffy, adventurous sitcom. Filled with a swoon-worthy slow burn romance, colorful characters, and mythical creatures, this book is perfect for anyone who wants some fantasy with their love stories.
Lacy, Videographer/Content Creator for the District, recommends:
I picked up “The Pumpkin Spice Café” because who doesn’t love a little pumpkin spice and fall romance? It’s basically a Hallmark movie for millennials. It includes the classic big-city girl meets a small-town farmer trope, with a touch of mystery to keep things interesting. It’s a fun, fluffy read full of cozy fall vibes. Now I’m totally hooked and need to dive into the rest of the series, which follows the love lives of the women business owners in this cute little town. If you’re craving something quick, fun, and a little spicy, this one’s a great pick!
Happy Valentines Day! What is your favorite romance book?
