Hello! I’d like to preface this by saying it was much harder than I expected. I really enjoy talking to people, but talking about myself is kind of difficult. I may or may not have a few drafts of this on my computer. I actually made it to the end of one and got the urge to delete everything. I was second-guessing myself hard. That happens a lot for me though, at least with writing. One time, in school, I had to write a persuasive essay and by the end, I had pretty much convinced myself that the opposing view was better. This is probably why I never tried to write a book myself. My husband says I should try since I read so much and am familiar with the tropes and such. I don’t think I’d make it past my first draft. Anyway, here’s me.

I’ve been with BCPL for a little over two years. I’m originally from Indiana but moved to Kentucky in 2018 with my then boyfriend (now husband) for work. We actually lived in the apartments behind Main for about two and a half years. I got my library card a few months after moving in. I left my old job in 2020 and worked a few others for a couple of years until, on a whim, I decided to see if the library was hiring. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner. I love books! And getting to work with people who also love books while being surrounded by them sounded like the perfect job. As luck would have it, there was a Page position available at the Florence branch. Checking in books, pulling holds, and organizing shelves was exactly what I wanted. My husband even said this sounded like the perfect job for me. I submitted my application and got an interview a few days later. And, the best part is, I can get to work in under five minutes (well, actually the best part is all the books. Or maybe it’s the worst since my TBR list skyrocketed in those first few months…no, it’s the best).
Aside from how I got here, a few other things to know about me are:
I love to read. Obvious, but I figured I’d get it out of the way first. My favorite genres are fantasy and sci-fi. I also enjoy thrillers a lot. Those have honed my skills at guessing the endings of movies, even though it sometimes irks my husband. I don’t really know when I first realized that I loved to read, but I do remember spending all of recess with a book, and being excited for the summer reading assignment even if it turned out to be boring. Like a lot of people, I fell out of reading for a few years around college and then picked it up again after I graduated. I frequently have an audiobook, a physical book, and a kindle book going at the same time. They’re usually all different, too. When I’m not reading or listening to an audiobook, I like to watch tv or movies, bake bread, and spontaneously paint rooms or rearrange the furniture in our house.

Another big hobby of mine is crocheting. I’ve been crocheting for the past 20 years, ever since my grandma taught me. She was actually left-handed so I had to sit across from her and mirror what she was doing. It was really hard and I gave up on it several times, but eventually it clicked. I really enjoy making things for other people. I think it’s because it presents me with a deadline (even though people usually tell me to take my time), because I’d have even more abandoned projects laying around. I mean, I have a lot currently, but there would definitely be more.
Some other things I enjoy doing are puzzles and playing board games/video games. My husband and I love to play boardgames. We really like the murder mystery/Hunt a Killer ones. We even have a Sherlock Holmes board game but that one is kind of long with only two players. We also really enjoy playing co-op video games. We recently came across “Unravel 2” and it’s so cute and the artwork is beautiful! We haven’t made it very far, though. Aside from co-op games, I really really like adventure/apocoplyptic-y video games like “Bioshock” and “The Last of Us“. I’ve replayed both of those several times.
I also really enjoy traveling. I’ve been to Maine for our honeymoon, Las Vegas for a wedding, and countless places for family vacations that mostly involved a beach, or Gatlinburg. I grew up camping almost every weekend during the summer and even some weekends during the school year. So traveling has always been a big part of my life. Although, I’ve never been out of the country. Yet. I recently got my passport and my husband and I have plans to visit Scotland soon.

Some final facts about me are, I met my husband in 2017, we bought our home in 2020, and we got married in 2023. Oh, and we have seven cats and one puppy. Their names are Ash, Cary (short for Dracarys), Bilbo, Betty. Gimli, Fatty Lumpkin, Nami, and Mabel. And yes, we reality like “The Lord of the Rings“, extended editions, of course.
