Dear Parents,
At Boone County Public Library we strive to promote the practices of TALK, SING, READ, WRITE, and PLAY through storytimes and activities with our little ones and their families. One of the ways we encourage writing is through Tales Mail. Children write letters to the BCPL mascot, Tales the Library Dragon, and he responds. In our current health and safety climate, we’re excited to offer Tales Mail in a new format. Instead of exchanging handwritten letters we are beginning Tales Mail through email.
We encourage you to talk with your children about what they would like to say to our library dragon. Have them write a letter on paper to be transferred to email. Your child might be in the pre-writing stage. Have them read their letter to you and scribe what they say. Let them see letters being formed. Sound them out together. This activity will promote several early literacy practices as you talk about what is written and then read back to your child. A snapshot of a handwritten letter and/or drawing is encouraged. Tales looks forward to responding to the messages he receives. Please send your child’s email letter to: taleslibrarydragon@bcpl.org
We miss our friends and families and hope you are doing well. We hope you take advantage of the many digital resources BCPL offers.
Until we can be together again,
The Youth Services Staff at Boone County Public Library
