In November 2021, I left work and went out to the parking lot at BCPL to have my annual mammogram. I scheduled my appointment each year with what I called the Mammogram Van. I simply wanted to check that task off my to-do list for this year!
The following week I received a call from my doctor telling me to go for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. After a biopsy in December, I learned that the spot they found was cancerous, and by January, a second spot was found during an MRI. My life was forever changed, and I had surgery in February 2022.

On November 1, 2024, the St. Elizabeth’s Mobile Mammography Unit will be in the parking lot of BCPL’s Main Library in Burlington. The fully-equipped van offers digital mammography screening and tomosynthesis (3D mammograms) in a private, comfortable setting. To make your appointment at the Main Library, please call 859-655-7400 or ask about other availability in Northern Kentucky, Southeast Indiana and Cincinnati. It is not only convenient, but it might save your life.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide. In the United States alone, the American Cancer Society estimates that over 297,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in 2024, along with 55,000 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer. While advances in early detection and treatment have improved survival rates, breast cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women. Risk factors include age, family history, genetic mutations and lifestyle factors.
