Uncover the People, Places and Stories that Shaped Boone County
Hidden within old newspapers, school yearbooks, photographs and family files are the stories that shaped Boone County. Thanks to BCPL’s improved digital archive, those stories are now easier to discover, search and share with the community.
The library’s new digital archive makes it easy to explore nearly 20,000 digital items, opening Boone County and regional history to a broader audience. Improved search tools and linked records help users uncover connections between people, places and events. For example, a search for Florence can lead users to nearby communities, cemeteries, historic events and related materials with just a few clicks.
The archive includes significant local collections, including the Boone County Recorder newspaper (1875–1973), offering a valuable window into the community’s past.
Users can also explore a growing collection of school yearbooks. The earliest dates back to Burlington High School in 1916, and the collection includes Boone, Conner, Cooper and Ryle high schools.
Another highlight is the library’s Family Files collection, which documents the histories and genealogies of local families. These records are an important resource for anyone researching Boone County ancestry.
